ONAM CELEBRATION 2022-23

Onam is the biggest festival in the state of Kerala. It is celebrated with great fervor and zeal by the Malayali people all over the country.On this auspicious occasion, St. Mary's College Bela, conducted Onam celebration in a grand and traditional manner. Onam celebration was inaugurated on the 1st Thursday of September 2022 in the college auditorium at 11 AM. The programme was started with the prayer song by the students. Ramya Shree B C, II M. Com welcomed everyone wholeheartedly to the programme. The President of the programme Very. Rev. Fr. Stany Pereira ,Correspondent of the college along with dignitaries ,Rev. Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, faculty of PG department, Rev. Fr. Anil Avild Lobo, Principal of the college, Mr. Vincent D'souza, Vice principal of the college inaugurated the celebration by lighting the traditional lamp. The auditorium was decorated with a beautiful 'pookalam' and students from the final year presented a beautiful onam dance ‘thiruvathira’.

President, Very. Rev. Fr. Stany Pereira addressed the gathering and conveyed greetings and wishes of the festival. Rev. Fr. Anil Avild Lobo, Principal of the college highlighted the importance of celebration of Onam. Rev. Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, faculty of the college, delivered onam message to the gathering.The prizes were distributed by the dignitaries . Flower carpets (Pookalam), Onam songs, and games added hues to the celebration. Students and teachers dressed up Kerala ethnic wear like Kasavu sarees, skirts,shirts and mundu marking the arrival of Onam.

Another attraction of the day was the traditional ‘Onasadya’ that comprised more than 15 dishes served on banana leaves and included varieties of vegetables, rice, banana and payasam. Shifali, II B. com, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms. Benita Crasta student of the college.
