The 7 day special camp of NSS unit of St. Mary's college was scheduled to be held from 22nd December 2019 to 28th December 2019. The theme for this years special camp was "Strive to serve the society". 43 NSS volunteers took part in the camp.
The 7 day special camp was officially inaugurated on 22nd December by Smt. Sharadha Y( President of Enmakaje Grama Panchayath) by hoisting NSS flag. Smt. Jayashree A Kulal (Development Standing Committee chairman and ward member of Saya village), Fr. Ashok Rayan Crasta(Principal of St. Mary's college), Mrs. Shashikala P(Headmistress of SDPLP school),Mr. Vincent D'souza (Vice Principal of St.Mary’s College) were the dignitaries on the dias.
After having lunch volunteers interacted with Villagers by visiting their houses. Volunteers created awareness through door to door campaign on cleanliness, reducing the usage of plastics, spread of diseases, importance of environment, water harvesting and importance of ground water. After taking dinner, volunteers discussed the project agenda and activities with NSS programme officer.
The 2nd day of the camp started with hoisting NSS flag. The volunteers cleaned the surroundings of SDPLP school. They really involved themselves in this manual work. After lunch, an orientation programme was arranged and the topic was “Plastic free world and Organic Farming” by Mr.Ravikumar Crasta, Head of CODP organization.It was followed by cultural programme by NSS volunteers.
The 3rd day was started with hoisting NSS flag and students performed Yoga and exercise and involved themselves in embankment project to a stream at Mr.Subba Nayak’s house. It was a wonderful experience for all the NSS volunteers and their commitment and dedication need to be appreciated.
After having lunch, an orientation programme was arranged on the the topic “Personality development - a need of the hour” by Mr.Pushpakaran G Bendichal .It was a wonderful session and students involved themselves actively in this interactive session.It was followed by cultural event and volunteers along with villagers enjoyed a lot.
The 4th Day of the camp was started with hoisting NSS flag.Many of the NSS volunteers involved in morning walk and Saya is a nice place for both sunrise and sun set.Thereafter students did Yoga and exercise to make themselves healthy and fit.The national theme of NSS itself is ‘National Youth for healthy India’
After having breakfast, students involved in project work that is constructing embankment to the stream.
After lunch,an orientation programme was arranged for NSS volunteers on the topic ”Role of NSS in Nation Building” by Dr.Ratnakara Mallamoole(National and State award winner for Best Programme Officer).We were lucky to have such an eminent personality for the session.It was followed by cultural programme.The response from Saya villagers was outstanding.
The 5th Day was started with hoisting NSS flag and students involved in yoga,exercise and morning walk.It was a wonderful experience that walking in the early morning at Saya village.The students completed the remaining embankment project.
Due to solar eclipse the orientation programme was made little early on the topic “Digital India and Cashless society” by Mr.Vishnuprakash, an eminent personality.
After having lunch, students visited Mr.Mathukutty Vaidyar,an eminent ayurvedic doctor who received award from former Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh for planting more than 3000 medicinal plants in a dry land and converted it in to purely a forest land.
Thereafter students performed cultural event and J.K lights and sounds from Bela joined us with DJ and santa claus to celebrate Christmas festival. Villagers arrived in large number and it was opined that the village had not seen any such event previously in this Saya locality. Credit must be given to entire NSS unit ,teachers of St.Mary’s College, Bela.
The seventh day was the closing day of the camp.The last day was initiated with hoisting NSS flag. There after NSS volunteers visited “Varanashi Farm” and it was a wonderful experience. The second session of the day was allotted to valedictory function. The programme was started with the NSS prayer. Rev.Fr.Ashok Rayan Crasta, Principal of St.Mary’s College welcomed the gathering.NSS Programme Officer Mr.Nagaraj M.S presented the NSS camp report in front of the dignitaries on the dias.V.Rev.Fr.John Vas, correspondent of the St.Mary’s College gave presidential address.Mr.Govinda Prakash Saya,the manager of SDPLP school, Smt.Ayisha chairperson of Health and education, Enmakaje Grama Panchayath, Smt.shashikala P Headmistress of SDPLP School were the other dignitaries on the dias. Mr.Govinda Prakash Saya appreciated the volunteers and staff for their work and thanked the village authorities for their support .Smt.Shashikala P was very happy with all the programmes which were conducted and congratulated all the volunteers for completing the NSS special camp with great success. Smt.Ayisha appreciated all the NSS volunteers for their dedicated work.The session concluded by vote of thanks proposed by NSS Programme officer Mr.Nagaraj M.S.
