A magnificent sports meet was organized at St Mary’s College, Bela on January 17, 2023. All the students participated with great fervour and manifested their athletic skills with an unimpeachable finesse.Very. Rev. Fr Stany Pereira, the correspondent of the college was the chief guest. He was accompanied by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Anil Avild Lobo, the Vice-Principal, Mr. Vincent D’Souza and the sports meet coordinator Mr. Farooq M on the dais.
The programme began with a prayer song by students. Ms Rajani from 3rd BCom welcomed the gathering. The sports meet was inaugurated by Hoisting of the College Flag, followed releasing pigeons by the Chief guests and lighting of the Sports Torch by Very. Rev. Fr Stany Pereira and the guests of honor on the stage. Mr. Ashik, Sports secretary along with House leaders led the ceremony of carrying the sports torch. The event proceeded further with the March Past led by the squads of all 4 Houses which were named after Indian military missiles Agni, Bahmos, Prahar and Prithvi. The students splendidly marched with pride and elegance to mark the opening ceremony and followed by the Oath taking Ceremony.
The President of the event Very. Rev.Fr. Stany Pereira, the correspondent of St. Mary's institution who has always been an inspiration with his motto “To bring together people of God” enlightened the gathering on the importance of physical fitness by the narrating the story of Wilma Rudolph an Olympic athlete. Also, he wished the students of St. Mary's College to make a mark for themselves in the sports arena at all the
levels. At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm and memories to cherish. Mr. Farooq M and Mr. Ravindra Pai were the programme coordinators. Ms. Benita Crasta from 3rd BCom compered the inauguration ceremony. Ms Jenita Crasta 2nd BCom proposed the vote of thanks.
